How To Shut Off Water Supply To Your Property
Water supply system leaks and plumbing fixtures repair require water to be shut off.
Doing this at the valve that’s closest to the problem is best. So, you keep water supply to the rest of the house.
Use the shut-off valve to stop the water supply without shutting off water to the entire house.
- To shut off a faucet, toilet, or similar fixture, look for a stop valve under the fixture. Turn the handle clockwise.
- To shut off a water heater, turn off the cold water valve above the water heater.
- To shut off the water supply to a washing machine, turn off the valve behind the machine.
Shut Off Water to the Entire House
Shut off the valve that controls the flow of water to the house, located by the cold water pipe enters. Rotate the handle clockwise.
Shut Off Water to Your Property
To turn off the water to the entire property, look for the main valve to the house beside your water meter, and turn it clockwise until it stops.
This valve should always be completely open or completely closed.
