For water heaters, you can remove sediments that build-up at the bottom of the appliance by draining water from the heater. For those using a water heater of over 10-15 years, a replacement is advised. You should also check dishwashers for likely leaks in hoses which can be fixed easily. The lint trap on the washing machine should be cleaned and a wire trap should be set at the end of the drain hose so that the link won’t get into the drainage. And of course, get your air conditioner checked and serviced before summer.
For homes with sump pumps, ensure that they are working well. You can see if it’s working by pouring buckets of water into the system and it shows activation. If it’s not activating the system, get it fixed immediately. Your water supply shut off valve should be able to turn on and off since it’s not always in use. Turning it on and off will prevent it from sticking.
