Your hot showers, fresh laundry and clean dishes on your water heater, this means there will be tough consequences in case it brakes down.
Not only regular water heater maintenance will prevent you sudden breakdowns, but could also extend its lifespan!
Here’s some advice on how to properly maintain yout water heater and make the best use out of it.
1) CHECK THE TEMPERATURE
Most water heaters are set 140 degrees Fahrenheit by default, this elevated temperature can cause scalding, and also accelerate mineral buildup, causing pipes to corrode. For water heater maintenance it’s recomended to set the temperature to 120 F, this will prevent tank damage saving you expensive repairs and replacements.
2) DRAIN THE TANK REGULARLY
Flushing out about one-quarter of the water heater tank regularly is highly recommended. Draining will help clear away sediment and preserve the heating efficiency of the water heater.
3) TEST THE PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE
When a pressure relief valve is in a good working condition releases a burst of hot water into the drainpipe once you raise and quickly lower the test lever. It’s a recommended to do this frequently to maintain normal pressure and clear debris out.
